(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – May 31, 2019) - - -Columbia State Community College’s Office of Workforce and Continuing Education recently recognized seven students that completed the phlebotomy technician program.
Phlebotomy technicians specialize in drawing blood and work in a variety of healthcare systems and organizations, and certification adds credibility and a competitive edge for applicants. Each student completed 48 hours of classroom instruction along with 102 clinical hours in the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Preparation Course.
“I am very proud of each of the students for achieving their goals and completing the National Healthcareer Association phlebotomy certification,” said Marsha Griffis, Maury Regional Medical Center phlebotomy supervisor and phlebotomy instructor.
Columbia State partnered with MRMC and affiliates, Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital and LabCorp for students to have access to facilities in the area for clinical practice. The program is designed to increase student success in healthcare programs.
“The class is prepared with rigorous content review and practice exams in preparation for the NHA certification exam,” said LK Browning, Columbia State Workforce and Continuing Education director. “As a result of the students’ hard work, the class received an 86percent first-attempt pass rate on the nationally recognized exam; the 2019 national average pass rate is 78 percent.”Photo Caption: (Pictured, left to right): Marsha Griffis, MRMC phlebotomy supervisor and phlebotomy instructor; Chelsea English, Mount Pleasant resident; Cassidy Uptmor, Cornersville resident; Casey Hinson, Mount Pleasant resident; Julie Springer, Lawrenceburg resident; Lina Albuhasam, Franklin resident; and Rachel Pafford, Lewisburg resident.
