Columbia State Hosts Guest Student Classical Recital
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Jan. 24, 2018) - - - Columbia State Community College welcomes Austin Peay State University student, Andrew Daunais, to the Cherry Theater Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. for a classical vocal recital.
"We always welcome students from other schools of music in the area," said Emily Gaskill, Columbia State associate professor of music. "It gives students opportunities to perform outside their normal performance venues and gives our students exposure to talented students outside Columbia State - Everyone benefits."
Baritone Daunais will be accompanied by pianist Jan Corrothers. The program will feature a variety of classical repertoire from several centuries and includes music by composers Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Ernest Chausson, Gaetano Donizetti and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Daunais is a senior music performance major at APSU and has taken an active role in the opera program during his time at the university. As a freshman, he was cast as Norton in Rossini's "La Cambiale di Matrimonio." Since then, he has performed the roles of David in Barber's "A Hand of Bridge" and John Wellington Wells in Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Sorcerer." In April, Duanais will perform the role of Aeneas in "Purcell's Dido and Aeneas." Daunais performs in Chamber Singers at APSU, and is a member of APSU's student group, Aspiring Vocal Performers.
Off campus, he has performed the roles of Le Fauteuil and L'Arbre in Ravel's "L'enfant et les Sortilèges" and the trio baritone in Bernstein's "Trouble in Tahiti." Daunais was the 2017 recipient of the Mabry Music Scholarship and attended the National Opera Association 2018 National Convention in New Orleans.
Corrothers is a staff accompanist for the APSU music department. Prior to her appointment at APSU, Corrothers held positions as staff accompanist and adjunct faculty member at Xavier University, Northern Kentucky University, Alderson Broaddus University and Marietta College.
