Transfer Day A Success

Anderson,a social work major and Marshall county resident, plans to transfer to Trevecca or Middle Tennessee State University after graduating from Columbia State.

"This is the first time we've ever done this in the spring," said David Ogden, Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Columbia State. "Years ago they did it only during the fall semester, but our students were not interested in transferring in the fall, so this year we decided to do it close to the time when our student would be graduating. This is a different approach and it seems to be working well."

Columbia State Community College students took advantage of the chance to get information and talk to representatives from various colleges around Tennessee and Alabama at Columbia State's Transfer Day on Wednesday, March 24.

"We have Transfer Day to assist our students with deciding what direction they may want to take after they've completed their program of study here at Columbia State," said David Ogden, "It offers students another service to be able to work with them and what their needs are academically."
Representatives from 11 schools attended Transfer Day including Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, David Lipscomb University, University of Tennessee- Knoxville and Chattanooga, and University of Northern Alabama.

"Transfer Day was very helpful," said Steven Apa, a Columbia State student who will plans on transferring after graduation. "It left me with more options than I thought I had."

Columbia State Chemical Engineering major, Josiah Rentschler didn't find the specific university he had hoped to talk to, however he enjoyed the chance to speak with other schools about the program he intends on going into and even added a few potential schools to his list. "The school I hoped to talk to didn't come today but I guess there are lots of different avenues that you have to decide as you go," said Rentschler. "Transfer Day gave me a chance to interact with other schools and talk to them about their programs."
