PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES ON SCHEDULE FOR MONTH OF JULY

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - June 21, 2012) - - - From health care programs to career training, Columbia State Community College can help you prepare for a new career or fine-tune your current skills. Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering a variety of classes on campus and online during the month of July.

Project Management Basics teaches the skills you need to succeed in the fast-growing field of project management. Learn how to establish a project objective, generate tactics to accomplish your objective, set a time line for the project, identify resources needed, set key milestones for the project, and establish other measurement metrics to assess progress. This one-night class will be on Monday, July 16.

The Pharmacy Tech Program is a popular medical certificate program in which you can train to be a pharmacy technician. You'll learn how to work under the direction of a pharmacist while filling prescriptions according to doctors' orders. This 50-hour course takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 10 through Aug. 28.

By enrolling in Basic Medical Coding, you will learn to analyze medical records and assign codes to medical conditions, symptoms, diseases, labs, x-rays, surgeries and diagnoses; establish proper documentation for billing any code to an insurance company to maintain accuracy; and understand how components of the documentation will be applied. This course prepares students to take a nationally recognized certification exam. The class will start July 17 and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 6.

Introduction to Excel 2010 teaches students to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. The one-day class will be on Friday July 6.

The Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, etc. The one-day class will be on Friday, July 20.

While taking Intermediate Excel 2010, students will learn how to use multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently, and they will start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes and backgrounds. Students will also learn how to create outlines and subtotals, how to create and apply cell names, and how to work with tables. Learn how to save workbooks as web pages, insert and edit hyperlinks, and share workbooks by email. The one-day class will be on Friday, July 27.

When you enroll in the Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate program, you will learn to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research and writing, and appellate procedure. This 6-week class is on Saturdays and Sundays from July 14 to Aug. 19.
