Columbia State Community College's Economic and Workforce Development Department has a strong online medical transcription training program graduating skilled entry level medical transcriptionists who are appropriate for transcription editor positions at Entrada - an innovative Middle Tennessee-based technology company that has pioneered a new platform for clinical documentation and data exchange used in ambulatory clinics, surgery centers and hospitals.

An affiliation between Columbia State's Economic and Workforce Development Department and Entrada allows the students of the online medical transcription program an opportunity to have a real world experience with speech recognition. It prepares students to work as medical transcriptionists and/or editors to record information in the medical record. The real world experience also may create potential job opportunities for graduates who can support Entrada initiatives as they prepare for growth in the healthcare business community.

Entrada has identified a need for qualified medical transcription editors to adequately serve its clients. Although some providers dictate and edit their own work, more of them choose to have a support staff of trained medical editors review and complete their documents as produced by the speech recognition portion of the Entrada system.

"Columbia State's online program has been in existence since 2003, and reflects changing technology and requirements in the healthcare field. It has been approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity, a distinction held by only 23 schools in the world," said Ron Beck, director of economic and workforce development at Columbia State. "Entrada automates clinical documentation processes making it simple to get information into an EHR. Entrada helps the client become productive on an EHR faster, and they do it without turning the world upside down. The learning curve is minutes, not months, and it is the system physicians actually use."

The Entrada system is a fast and easy solution for exchanging clinical data where, when and for whom it is needed. It is more attuned to the physicians' workflow and productivity while protecting or enhancing productivity.

Columbia State will hold an information session on July 8, 2010, from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Hickman Building, room 123 on the Columbia Campus to share information regarding the medical transcription/editing field and potential employment in this fast growing career.
