DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC PRESENTS STUDENT MUSIC PROGRAM

Performance Open to the Public on December 2

(Columbia, Tenn. - November 23, 2010) - - - Columbia State Community College's Department of Music will present a student music program featuring the Columbia State Choir on Thursday, December 2 at 1 p.m. in the Ledbetter Auditorium in the Clement building located on the Columbia Campus. The Performance Ensemble will open the program with several instrumental arrangements from the Baroque Period. The choir will perform a variety of choral selections from different historical periods, including a Renaissance madrigal by Thomas Morley, a medley of Medieval carols and several African American spirituals. This event is complimentary and open to the public.

"We have a small group this semester that has been dedicated to learning the music for this program," remarked Emily Gaskill, Assistant Professor of Music at Columbia State. "The variety of musical selections in the program provides something for everyone to enjoy."

The Columbia State Choir is directed by Gaskill and accompanied by Marilyn Adams, Adjunct Professor of Music. The Performance Ensemble is directed by Dr. Mark Lee, Associate Professor of Music at Columbia State.
