COLUMBIA STATE OFFERS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COURSES IN JANUARY
Computer, Time Management and Statistical Process Control
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Dec. 20, 2011) - - - Have you made your New Year's resolutions yet? Start the year right with time management training and professional development. Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit classes in January, including a series of Microsoft Office 2010 introductory classes that will have you mastering the latest upgrade in no time.
Come on your own or bring your whole office. As a special invitation to Middle Tennessee employers, Columbia State is offering a discount for groups of four or more that register for any or all of the classes. There is no need to worry because Columbia State is closer than you think. The main campus is approximately 35 miles south of Cool Springs and 35 miles north of Pulaski.
Introduction to Word 2010 is a hands-on class in which the student will learn how to add, move through and edit text, move words from one part of your document to another, work on two or more documents simultaneously, change the size or appearance of text, change margins and tab settings, run grammar and spell check, use the thesaurus and save, retrieve, copy, organize and print documents. This class will be on the Columbia campus on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $129 fee includes textbook.
Introduction to Excel 2010 teaches students to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. Get started with Excel 2010 by attending this class. The course will be Friday, Jan. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Then $129 fee includes textbook.
Introduction to PowerPoint 2010 teaches students how to create professional-quality slide presentations that grab and hold your audience's attention from start to finish. Students will explore the latest features of PowerPoint, from the all-new file menu to the backstage view. Find out how to create dazzling presentations formatted with themes and a variety of slide layouts. Learn how to embellish slides with text, objects, SmartArt, multimedia, animation, sound, charts, clip art, and hyperlinks. The class will be on Friday, Jan. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $129 fee includes textbook.
The Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, etc. This class will be on Friday, Jan. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $129 fee includes textbook.
Statistical Process Control Introduction is a class designed for manufacturing employees, including quality engineers, technicians, production workers, supervisors, plant managers, etc., and it teaches students how to improve the quality of their product or service. The class also helps students understand when/how often to make adjustments to processes in order to improve quality. SPC Introduction can also help students better understand the basic principles of SPC such as causes of variation; frequency histograms and check sheets; variable control charts; attribute control charts; machine and process capability; and quality problem-solving tools. The class is on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 24 and 31. The fee for the class is $139.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is this 3-day leadership course, based on the Steven Covey book. Participants will learn seven habits that can make a huge difference in the effectiveness as individuals and the way they work with groups. Instructor Bill McEwen will teach students how to improve their ability to prioritize work; manage time; react more meaningfully to situations encountered; find ways to solve problems in a win-win manner; communicate more effectively; and to find better direction for their personal and professional lives. The class will be at the Columbia Campus on Friday, Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $399 fee includes all course materials.

If your life is ruled by the clock, maybe you're missing the point. Achieving Life Balance through Effective Time Management is a class in which students will learn how to examine their own priorities and align daily activities with long term goals. Instructor Bill McEwen will teach students how to make the most of their choices, relationships, career and more. This class will be at the Columbia campus on Monday, Jan. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The $109 fee includes four hours of instruction and a certificate of completion.
