Columbia State Offers Non-Credit Variety During October

COLUMBIA STATE OFFERS NON-CREDIT VARIETY DURING OCTOBER
Courses Include Resume Writing, EMT Refresher, and Photoshop Courses


Are you interested in updating your resume or developing leadership skills? Check out the variety of courses being offered at Columbia State Community College during October.

The following non-credit courses will be offered at the Columbia Campus:

Introduction to Photoshop Elements 7.0 is an introductory class that takes students through importing, cataloging, selecting and identifying images for easy retrieval using the organizer module of Photoshop Elements. This class will be held on Tuesday, October 6 and Thursday, October 8, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The fee is $69.

Resume Writing is a four-hour class which covers the different formats in which resumes can be written, important information to include in your resume, and how to get it to the right person in the hiring chain. This class will be held on Wednesday, October 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. There will also be a second session of the class held on October 21 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The fee for the class is $69.

Introduction to Excel 2007 includes topics such as getting started with Excel 2007, working with formulas and functions, formatting a worksheet, working with charts and analyzing data using formulas and functions. This class will be held on Friday, October 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $129 and includes a textbook.

The Essentials of Leadership course teaches students skill sets that are critical for being an effective leader, how to communicate effectively with people and how to involve others in making decisions. The class will be held on Friday, October 9, from 8:30 a.m. to12:30 p.m. The cost of the course is $99 and includes all class materials.

The EMT Refresher course is a twenty-four hour course that provides participants with a review and update on the care and treatment of medical trauma emergencies. Participants completing this course will meet the refresher requirements for re-certification with the National Registry. This class will be held Monday through Wednesday, October 12-14, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $110.

Intermediate Excel 2007 covers topics including managing workbook data, using tables, analyzing table data, automating worksheet tasks, enhancing charts, sharing excel files, and incorporating web information. The class will be held on Friday, October 16. The fee of $129 includes a text.

The Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate course is an 84-hour course that trains students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. The instruction is practice-oriented and relates to those areas of law in which paralegals are most in demand. This class will be held on Saturdays and Sundays for six weekends, beginning on October 17 and concluding on November 22, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. The fee is $1,089 and students are required to purchase texts. The cost is approximately an additional $340 for texts. Columbia State's Center for Economic and Community Development partnered with the Center for Legal Studies, based in Golden, Colorado, to bring this course to South Central Tennessee.

The Editing in Photoshop Elements 7.0 course takes participants through the editing module of Photoshop Elements. This includes optimizing landscapes and other images through color correction, selections, defect removal, localized adjustments, using layers and other techniques. This class will be held Tuesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 22, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The course fee is $69.

Introduction to Access 2007 covers topics including getting started with Access 2007, building and using queries, using forms, using reports, and modifying the database structure. This class will be held on Friday, October 23, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee is $129.
