COLUMBIA STATE OFFERS NON-CREDIT COURSES IN OCTOBER
Computer Training, Medical Transcription, & EMT Refreshers available
(Columbia, Tenn. - September 21, 2010) - - - Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit courses during the month of October, covering a variety of professional development topics.
"Intermediate QuickBooks 2010" includes banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, and protecting and backing up data. This class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, October 8 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes the textbook.
The "Essentials of Leadership" course will teach you to evaluate your use of important leadership behaviors, identify your leadership strengths and areas for development, to assess your communication skills and develop particular skills you want to develop further. The class is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $149 includes the textbook and all class materials.
The "EMT Refresher" is a twenty-four hour course that provides participants with a review and update on the care and treatment of medical trauma emergencies. Participants completing this course will meet the refresher requirements for re-certification with the National Registry and will receive 2.4 continuing education units. Participants must register at least two weeks before the class begins on October 18. The fee is $120.
"Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate" trains the students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research, and legal writing and appellate procedure. This class is scheduled for six weekends on Saturdays and Sundays beginning October 16 through November 21 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The fee of $1,189 does not include textbook. (Students are also required to purchase texts, approximately $340).
"Online Medical Coding" course is offered through a partnership with Oak Horizons. The program consists of six consecutive blocks, and will take about six weeks to complete. A student will complete 950 cumulative hours of study during the program. Oak Horizons regularly networks with various employers to document skill needs and program value. This class will begin on Monday, October 25. The fee of $1,999 does not include textbooks.
The "Online: Gatlin Education" programs are in-depth, career training courses in association with Gatlin Education Services, the world's largest provider of online, instructor-supported training to colleges and universities. The self-paced courses are available anytime, anywhere. All you need is a web-enabled computer and a desire to learn skills that will prepare you for a new career or update current skill sets. Even though you don't have to attend class, you won't be on your own. The "Administrative Dental Assistant" is nationally recognized as an online certificate program that teaches the essential administrative tasks for managing the business aspects of a dental practice and becoming an Administrative Dental Assistant. The program includes instruction in dental terminology and anatomy, medical records management, accounts receivable and reimbursement management, insurance and patient billing, patient scheduling, and procedural and diagnostic coding. The Administrative Dental Assistant online program will prepare you for a new career working in a dental office. The program will take 150 hours to complete. The fee of $1,595 includes all materials, including textbooks.
The "Pharmacy Technician" is nationally recognized as an online course and training program that teaches the skills needed to gain employment as a Pharmacy Tech in either the hospital or retail setting. The objective of the Pharmacy Technician Program is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify for entry-level positions in pharmacies as well as prepare for national certification. It will take 240 hours to complete the program. The fee of $1,795 includes all materials.
