About the Innovation Lab
The Innovation Lab is an exciting collection of resources and tools open to all currently enrolled Columbia State students, faculty, and staff. The goal of the Innovation Lab is to provide a space for students (and staff) to utilize technology, enrich the classroom experience, prototype new ideas, and sometimes – just simply build something cool.The Innovation Lab is housed on the upper level of the Arts & Technology Building on the Williamson campus and consists of two spaces:
- Room 201: A large, open-access collaborative space with flexible seating to accommodate both individual and group projects.
- The Innovation Lab “Workroom” (Frankling Arts & Technology Building, Room 213) – a separate conjoined room with a collection of tools and machines available to authorized students, faculty and staff. After training, users can access the Workroom’s laser cutter, 3D printers, hobby CNC, vinyl cutter, and more!
How to Access the Innovation Lab Workroom
Columbia State students are encouraged to utilize the space for course-related projects as well as approved independent initiatives.
Faculty and staff have special options to reserve the space for course-related events and college-related organizations.
To find out more about the Terms of Use and learn how to receive access to the Innovation Lab Workroom, students and staff are encouraged to enroll in Innovation Lab Training in Online Campus.
Tools Available in the Innovation Lab Workroom
The Innovation Lab Workroom has the following tools available for use by authorized students, faculty and staff.- Glowforge Pro Laser Cutter
- X-Carve CNC
- Ender 3 S1 Pro 3D Printer
- Ender 5 Plus 3D Printer
- 34-inch Vinyl Cutter
- Green-screen, Backlights and HD Recording Equipment
*Please note that in addition to completing a core safety training, students and staff are required to complete additional training prior to operating certain tools. For more information on training, refer to the Innovation Lab Training Module in Online Campus.

In addition to the equipment above, the Innovation Lab has other additional resources that can be made available for student projects and employee use:- 8 Meta Quest 2 VR Goggles
- Soldering Station & Mat
- 6 Ryze Tech Tello Drones
- 8 Raspberry Pi | 6 Arduino Uno | Supporting Sensors
- Core tool sets (including precision screw drivers, measuring tools, etc)
Columbia State Students and Employees: How to Access the Innovation Lab Workroom
We’re excited to have you join the Innovation Lab!All students and employees are welcome to use the open-access collaborative space (Room 201) during regular business hours (8AM – 4PM).
To receive access to the Innovation Lab Workroom (Room 213), students and employees need to complete required training available in Online Campus.
To self-enroll in the Innovation Lab Training course, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Online Campus (https://elearn.columbiastate.edu/) and login with your Columbia State PVT
- In the Menu Bar at the top of page, select “Discover”
- Select the course “Innovation Lab Training”
- Click “Enroll in Course”
- Open the Course and begin the training module! We’ll see you soon!
