Ken Gluck, the Education coordinator for the TN Holocaust Commission, will speak on the holocaust Mr. Gluck is the son of a holocaust survivor. His father was in the death camp at Mauthausen in Austria. The town is a pleasant tourist area off The Danube River in Austria and was a site for tourists and resorts. But when the Nazi’s annexed Austria in 1938, it became the site of a new concentration camp. Murders were conducted and prisoners were forced to work in quarries until they died. Malnutrition was rampant, and exterminations of sick prisoners was routine. In 1941, they created gas chambers to exterminate the remaining prisoners. But near the end of the war, the desperate German army, hungry for workers to make munitions, employed the more healthy workers to make bombs and other weapons of war for the German war effort. Many of these unwilling workers tried to undermine the German war effort. But this same policy resulted in Mr. Gluck’s father surviving. It is a chilling tale and there are few left to tell it.
