Dual Enrollment Questions

Students must be a junior or senior in high school.

Dual Enrollment students can take any class (except learning support classes) as long as the prerequisites are met.

Prerequisites can be satisfied by ACT/SAT or placement test scores.

The standard in-state tuition rate for Dual Enrollment classes is $166 per credit hour ($498 for a 3-credit hour course).

Dual Enrollment classes are college level courses and held to the same academic rigor and standards as other Columbia State courses. 

Students need to be prepared to pursue their education both in the classroom and on their own.

Personal responsibility is a key component to success.

It is recommended students spend at least 1 to 2 hours outside the classroom each week.

No, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) only applies to students who have completed high school or passed the HISET/GED exam.

Yes, students can lose grant eligibility if their college GPA drops below a 2.00. Also, if the student starts a new academic year as a Dual Enrollment student again, s/he would need to reapply for the grant.

Yes, a student must maintain a college GPA of a 2.0 to remain in the Dual Enrollment program. If a student’s college GPA goes below a 2.0, s/he has lost eligibility to enroll at Columbia State as a Dual Enrollment student permanently. However, the student can return as a First Time Freshman or other admissions type once s/he has completed high school.

Academically Talent and Gifted students are currently enrolled in a TN high school, have a 3.2 or higher GPA and have an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) in which college courses are recommended.

Dual Enrollment students are high school juniors or seniors and wish to begin earning college credit while still in high school.

If you were admitted as a second semester sophomore student, we have admitted you on the condition that you provide an updated transcript once you have started your junior year of high school.

Columbia State has not lost your earlier transcript; we need an updated one showing you’ve started your junior year classes.

As a dual enrollment student, we do not limit how many classes you can take. If you can meet the requirements for the class, and you can meet the academic rigor of taking more than one class at a time, a student can take up to 18 credit hours of class, like our other college students.

No. Accepted student’s information is protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Students can complete a FERPA release form in person at all 5 campuses if they wish to share their information with a particular individual.

If a student is currently Dual Enrollment, the FERPA release is included on the consent form needed for admission.

Please allow 3-5 business days after submission for the document to be added to your account.

Yes, as long as the home school laws in that state were followed. Additional documentation may be required to ensure compliance with state laws.

No. We do not require test scores to admit a student. However, placement testing may be required after admission to determine learning support requirements before a student can register for classes.

This could be one of two reasons.

No, MyChargerNet is a different domain from our web application.

No, your MyChargerNet becomes active after you are admitted. You will not receive your login credentials until you are admitted.

If you become locked out of your account, email a copy of a photo ID to records@ColumbiaState.edu or come to the nearest Columbia campus with a photo ID to reset your login credentials.

You can find your PVT Username in your acceptance letter. If you no longer have that, you can find it by going to the MyCN login page and select the “PVT Username Lookup” button.

4. On the page it takes you to, select What’s my Columbia State ID (aka A#) and PVT Username?

4. Select the View/Pay Account button in the “Student Services” box (the green button with the dollar sign).
5. Select “Yes, I will be attending” and follow the prompts given to confirm you will be taking classes with us. Answer “No” if you no longer plan to attend and want to drop your courses.
6. If you accidentally answer incorrectly, email BusinessOffice@ColumbiaState.edu to reset the question.
